East Court and graveyard, Inner Farne (North Sunderland and Seahouses)
The present entrance to the monastic courtyard on Inner Farne is through the east court, which was once a graveyard. Three stone coffins, some medieval coffin lids and an early monumental effigy were found here in 1816 and all but one coffin were reburied in the north court. At the west end of the court the foundations of a wall connect the chapels of St Mary and St Cuthbert and there was once a door through the wall, although it is no longer visible. A 15th century font standing in the court was brought here in the 19th century from Gateshead parish church. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
