Osberwick shrunken settlement (Adderstone with Lucker)

Osberwick, or Newstead, settlement is documented from 1279 through to the 19th century. In the early 19th century the village was reorganised and smallholdings were allotted to cottagers. A plan of 1815 shows only one farm and four cottage holdings remaining. A possible alternative site of the village has been identified to the west.
