NU 089 122. Whittingham Station on the former Alnwick to Cornhill branch of the North Eastern Railway, opened circa 1887. The good range of buildings include station house, cottages, coal depot, central platform office, goods shed etc. This is a fine example of high quality building on a speculative and ultimately unsuccessful line of the late 19th century. Railway line is disused but most of the buildings remain in private use. Recommended 'Defer'. (2)
Whittingham Station, grade II listed building. Disused. 1887 by Bell of York. Cast iron canopy surrounds the building, formerly had a glass roof. Cantilevered with brackets and elaborately decorated spandrels. Island station. Single storey. (3)
The only island station on the Alnwick-Cornhill branch of the North-Eastern Railway. (4)

Whittingham Railway Station was the only one on the Alnwick to Cornhill Railway with an island platform service both tracks of the passing loop around the station. This was a singl-storey building with glazed canopy all around which was supported on ornate brackets which included stars. The station complex included further station cottages and stationmaster's house. (6)
