Callaly Mill stone axe (Whittingham and Callaly)
A stone celt, probably of felstone, dug up at Callaley Mill a short time ago by a mason who was repairing the bridge and washing pool, was was exhibited by Major Browne, of Callaley Castle. It is 3-3/4 inches long, 2-1/8 inches across the wide end and 1/2 inches at the narrow end. (1)
NU 05361097: sited to 'washpool' on OS 6 inch (Edition of 1926). Major Browne of Callaly Castle stated that the collection of antiquities formerly at Callaly Castle is now at the British Museum. (2)
