Aberdeen granite tapered pedestal with marble statue on a three step base, the middle of which is rough hewn stone. Statue: Durham Light Infantry soldier in service dress with cap and pack, hands clasped around barrel of rifle which rests on ground. Located in the grounds of the Town Hall in the centre of the pathway leading from Market Street to the Hall entrance, statue facing west. An additional War Memorial Cross is located close by.

Inscription on plinth begins 'To the Glory of God ...' and commemorates the men of Ferryhill who died in the First World War, 1914-1918, with names inscribed on all other sides in two columns; additional inscription refers to second World War 1939-1945, and additional names are inscribed. 'Pass not this stone in sorrow but in pride/And may ye live as nobly as they died' inscribed on front plinth Unveiled 1925. (1-2)
