War Memorial Cross near Town Hall, Ferryhill (Ferryhill)
War memorial granite cross with encircled head, decorated on northern face with Celtic design and central plain boss at the crosspiece, undecorated on reverse face. Stands on a tapering pedestal and square plinth at the top of two steps, located in the Town Hall grounds facing onto North Street, close to a war memorial statue of a soldier.
Dedication carried on front of plinth, in memory of the men of East Howle and Crossings who gave their lives in the First World War. Names of WW1 dead carried in single columns on the sides of the plinth, additional dedication to those who died in WW2 is carried on the rear face of the plinth.
The cross was moved her from East Howle (a small mining settlement) but the exact date of its unveiling in Ferryhill is unknown. (1-2)
