Kirkhaugh deserted medieval village (Knaresdale with Kirkhaugh)
The medieval village of Kirkhaugh existed by the 13th century. It must have existed in the Anglo-Saxon period, because a stone cross from this period still survives in the churchyard. Kirkhaugh is mentioned as a `small village' in a document written in 1715. A church and two farmsteads from the village survive today.
