Hoard (Whittingham and Callaly)
(NU 08961138) (2). Towards the end of 1847 some drainers working in a boggy patch in Coldwell Field on Thrunton Farm, near Whittingham, discovered a small hoard of bronze weapons in almost perfect condition. It consisted of three spearheads of leaf-shaped form, one sword of common native variety and a socketed sword with antennate pommel - the latter is of late Bronze Age date. Now in Black Gate Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. (2)
The hoard belongs to the culminating phase of the Bronze Age. (3)
