Cragside Hill flint axe (Cartington)

[Marginal]. A fine specimen of a flint axe or adze was found on Cragside Hill in 1889 by a workman, who gave it to Lord Armstrong. It is 3-1/2ins long and 1-1/2ins wide at the cutting edge. It is now in the Cragside Collection. [Illustration shows a flint celt, roughly chipped at the narrow end but ground or polished towards the cutting edge]. (1)
