Hindley deserted medieval village (Broomley and Stocksfield)
Settlement is recorded at Hindley from medieval times. In 1296, when there were two taxpayers and, by the 1377 Poll Tax, this had risen to 27 taxpayers, although this included neighbouring hamlets. By the 18th and 19th centuries Hindley comprised only two buildings and then a single farm. There are no earthwork remains visible around the present farm.
