Five cist burials (Duddo)

(Name NT 887443) Stone Cists [O.E.] (found AD 1905). (1)

In 1905 seven stone cists were found under a mound together with several 'British Vases', which are now at Tillmouth Park. (NT 88524278.) The cists are still uncovered and three are complete. (2)

NT 88714437 Three cists still discernible, two of which have three sides remaining and measure 1.1m x 0.7m and 0.9m x 0.4m respectively, whilst the third, is badly mutilated and has only two side stones. All are earth filled almost to the surface. A little to the north-west a slight rectangular depression may indicate the site of a fourth. There are no traces of the other three cists or of a covering mound. The present location of the finds could not be established. (3)

The cists could not be located. Some replanting has now taken place and the remains may have been removed. The present owners have no knowledge of the site. (4)

General association with HER 34420 (ring ditch). (5)
