Medieval cattle park (Kirkwhelpington)

In the medieval period, farmers created this square enclosure surrounded by an earth and stone bank. The entrance to the enclosure is next to a set of earth and stone banks that form a funnel used to herd cattle into the enclosure. The remains of a small stone cell, or room, can be seen next to the entrance of the enclosure.
