Chapel of the Blessed Virgin (Chollerton)

(NY935753) The chantry chapel of the Blessed Virgin, mentioned in 1240 and 1349, seems to have stood at the west end of the village (of Great Swinburn) on the south side of the road, opposite the north east corner of the Castle curtain wall. It was probably destroyed during the Scottish Wars. (1)

No trace of the 'Castle' (NY 97 NW 35) survives. Interpreting Hodgson's reference, however, as the north east corner of the present quadrangular house, (Swinburne Castle) the inferred site is approximately NY93517538. There are no visible remains. (2)
