Site Details

Henge (Chollerton)

(NY 90667995) Earthwork. (1)

Camp. (Outline of rectangular earthwork shown). (2)

'Stots Plantation'. The site of an earthwork. (Listed under native site of Northumberland). (3)

Sketch Plan. (4)

Surveyed at 1/2500. (5)

Condition unchanged. A partly mutilated enclosure consisting of a central platform, surrounded by a ditch, berm and weak external bank. There is a possible entrance in the north, but no internal structures. (See Colquhoun's annotated sketch plan).
The type of work is uncertain. Although it occupied an elevated position, the internal ditch precludes a defensive function, and it is uncharacteristic of any 'native' site common to the area. (6)

Scheduled. (7)
