Prehistoric Burial (Hexham; Corbridge)

In September 1830 workman, when levelling a part of the Newcastle road, about 1-1/2 miles east of Hexham, found an inhumation burial [apparently extended] in a grave. (1)

This was a cist burial. The exact site is not known, but there is evidence that it must have been a little west of Widehaugh and not far from two other cists [NY 96 SE 2]. (2)

Area NY 958638. No further information, sited to an area centred on the milestone 1-1/2 miles from Hexham. (3)
