Turret 24a (Green Field) (Wall)
[NY 9558 6936] Turret 24A [GSC] (Site of) [T.I.] (1)
This was located, in February 1930, 87 yards west of the second fence east of Green Field Farm. Remains of its masonry was found to be three courses high on the west side, near the road, gradually reducing to one at the corner. An upper millstone was found and replaced on the south west corner. (2)
There are no visible remains. The site is mainly covered by the modern road. (3)
Scheduling revised on 14th July 1997, part of national monument number 26049. Turret 24a occupies a slight hollow which restricts views to the east and west. It survives as a buried feature below the B6318 road. It was located and partly excavated during 1930 by Hepple. (4)
The turret was excavated in 1930 to find its location only (5b). The site of the turret is under the Military Road, no surface trace at NY 9558 6936. (5a)
