Hermitage of John the Hermit (Wall)

Not far distant (from St Oswald's Church) [NY 937696] was the hermitage in which John the Hermit was living when Simon de Meynell sought, and obtained, a licence from Archbishop Corbridge (died 1303) to associate himself with him in his retirement. (1)
