Extensive remains of mill and associated small rectangular buildings and mill race on W bank of Otter Burn. Remains of six ruined buildings, i)19m+ x 6m, one rooms; ii) 12m x 6m, one room; iii) 19m x 6m, one room; iv) 14m x 4m, three unequal rooms; v) 12m x 1m, two unequal rooms; vi) 8m x 5m, one room.
Numerous entries for Hopefoot Mill in Elsdon Parish Register between 1695-1785; shown on 1731 Elsdon Tithe Award map; incorrectly located on Fryer's map of 1820. On the Elsdon Tithe map of 1840 it was shown occupied and in the 1851 Census returns occupied by a shepherd. Present farmer remembers the masonry being removed from the site in early 20th century.
