Hopefoot Mill (Otterburn)

Extensive remains of mill and associated small rectangular buildings and mill race on W bank of Otter Burn. Remains of six ruined buildings, i)19m+ x 6m, one rooms; ii) 12m x 6m, one room; iii) 19m x 6m, one room; iv) 14m x 4m, three unequal rooms; v) 12m x 1m, two unequal rooms; vi) 8m x 5m, one room.
Numerous entries for Hopefoot Mill in Elsdon Parish Register between 1695-1785; shown on 1731 Elsdon Tithe Award map; incorrectly located on Fryer's map of 1820. On the Elsdon Tithe map of 1840 it was shown occupied and in the 1851 Census returns occupied by a shepherd. Present farmer remembers the masonry being removed from the site in early 20th century. Demolished by MOD. (1)

Remains of 'Hopefoot Mill' visible as rectangular earthwork on lidar imagery. Shown as a building on Ordnance Survey 1st edition map and on subsequent OS maps through until 1970s, but 1980s map shows nothing here. (3)
