Lower Stobbylee bastle (Bellingham)
The ruins of a farm lie next to a stream on the south-east slopes of Ealinghamrigg Common. The remains include those of a bastle and outbuilding, a later building, a series of walled enclosures and pens. The bastle measures 10.5m by 7m with walls about 1.3m thick. The byre doorway was set in the west end but has been blocked and partially collapsed. There is a draw bar tunnel in the north side of the doorway. The bastle seems to be a fairly conventional type and may have had a quenching hole over the byre doorway. It seems to have been remodelled and perhaps reduced in height in the 18th century, before being abandoned in the 19th century.
