Roman settlement (Warden)

A rectilinear earthwork measuring c.185ft by 190ft is situated c.500yds south west of Tower Tie. The ramparts, which vary in height from 1ft to 3ft, are composed of earth and stone and have three gaps, that on the north east being an entrance. The interior appears to have been sub-divided a number of times.
Classified under rectangular and sub-rectangular enclosures containing stone huts. Probably Romano-British. (2)(3)
Surveyed at 1:2500. Description correct. (4)
Published survey (25 inch) correct and condition unchanged. (5)
NY 886707. Tower Tye, Romano-British settlement. Original enclosure almost square in shape, but for an extension on north side of the east facing entrance. Six(?) hut foundations and internal walls visible. (6)

A rectangular enclosure with internal subdivisions and at least six extant round houses. (8)
The settlement of probable Roman date was seen as an earthwork and mapped from air photographs. The rectilinear enclosure forming the settlement measures 57 m by 58 m; the annexe enclosure to the north-east is 20 m wide. Three possible round houses were recognised inside the main enclosure. A field boundary of probable Post Medieval date runs throught the enclosure N-S. (9a)

NY 8864 7065. An enclosed settlement containing at least five circular huts and a complex of rectilinear enclosures up to 0.6m high. It is now turf-covered, but in the process of severe damage due to use as a cattle feeding area. (9c)
