Hole Farm Roman farmstead (Wark)
(NY 83527728) Camp. (1)
A bi-vallate rectangular camp at Hole Farm; much ploughed down, but seemingly about 90 yards by 45 yards, on the east-side are divisions 'as of dwellings and a large one perhaps for cattle'. Classified as probably Romano-British and 'native' by Dodds and Hogg respectively.2)(3)(4)
This is a bi-vallate, sub-rectangular earthwork with medial ditch, crossed (north-south) by a bank and hedge.
The greater part (to the west of the hedge bank), has been ploughed out, except for a much spread outer bank on north and west.
To the east of the hedge bank, the outer bank is missing on south and east. There are the remains of an enclosure in the north east corner but no sign of an entrance. The site is surrounded by rig and furrow. (5)
A small Romano-British settlement. (6)
Surveyed at 1/2500. (7)
No change. The site is probably a Romano-British native homestead rather than a settlement. (8)
Scheduled. (9)
