(NY 832565 - 807537) Smelting Mill Flue.
(NY 80755370, 80975398) Chimney.
NY 832567 - 814538. Allen Lead Smelt Mill, operating in 1692 with large extensions and long horizontal flues being added in 1808 and 1845-50. Three flues can be followed from the smelt mill site (where there are considerable undefined walls, arches etc) for 2 to 3 miles up onto open moorland; two of the flues terminating in one chimney, the other also terminating in a chimney. Parts of the flues are intact but the chimneys are not in good condition. The smelt mill was closed in 1896. The flues are recommended as schedule and the buildings? (remains?) are recommended for listing. (1)(2)(3)
Scheduled.(4)
Allen smeltmill (Pattinson Building) is a 19th century silver smelter which associated with the lead smelting mill provides an important representative example of the technology of this period. The building is currently redundant and well suited to re-use with appropriate attention paid to evidence in or beneath the floor. It is nationally important and if not already covered by the lead industry then it should be recommended for listing. (5)(6)(7)(8)(9)
