Battle of Flodden Field (Branxton)
This battle was fought on 9 September 1513 and is also known as the Battle of Branxton Moor. The Scots, under James IV, were defeated by the English who were led by the Earl of Surrey. About 21 percent of the Scottish forces were casualties in the battle, including the Scottish king. Some traces of the battle have been found in marshy ground and comprise metal and stone cannonballs. A modern memorial cross was erected in 1910. This is a Registered Battlefield.
