Sipton Mine (Allendale)
Access shaft to lead mine. Worked by the Weardale Lead Company 1923-44. Later worked for fluorspar, still in operation in 1985. (1)

Also access to Sipton Mine. Worked Esps Vein, worked by the Weardale Lead Co. Ore transported by
battery locomotive along Blackett Level and raised at Sipton Shaft which had the last hydraulic
hoisting engines in the North Pennines (up to 1946).
Mine had produced 24000 tons Fluorspar to 1985. (2b)
Worked by Weardale Lead Co 1923-1944 producing, with St Peter's Mine, 21156 tons lead
concentrates. (2c)
