United Reformed Church (Falstone)

United Reformed Church, Falstone. Grade II listed building. Formerly Presbyterian. Built in 1807, restored and tower added in 1876. Inscription over tower doorway 'FALSTONE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 1707, 1807 1876'. (1)

Presbyterian, now United Reformed Church. Falstone and Kielder congregations were formerly known as 'North Tyne' and may have originated in the late 17th century. The interior was refitted in 1876. (2)

An early 19th century church, built of coursed stone with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof. Formerly a Scottish Presbyterian church, now a United Reformed Church. A tall single-storey, four-bay church with an east tower. The two centre windows of 1807 are broad and round headed with keystones and impost blocks. Between them an oval datestone of 1807. The outer windows are narrower and were inserted in 1876. The tower is most distinctive. It was added in 1876 and has a pyramidal roof and quite original openings. (4)

Church contains a war memorial white marble table inscribed "SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF OUR BRETHREN/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918/ "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT/ A MAN DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."/ 1939 - 1945/ (NAMES)". (5)
