Blacka Burn (Wark)

Remains of shielings, 22-1/2ft by 14ft at NY 77457790, 22-1/2ft by 14ft to the west of the former, 20-1/2(?)ft by 14ft at NY 77447789, 25ft by 12-1/2 to 13-1/2ft at NY 77407791 and 18ft to 24ft long at NY 77407789. (1)

The area is one of luxuriant grassland on the north bank of Blacka Burn. It has however been deep ploughed and afforested, though the trees are at present barely visible through the grass. Only one of the shielings is now recognisable as such; it is at NY 77447790 and visible as large turf-covered boulder footings 17m east/west by 4.5m overall. No other details are clear.
The remainder of the shielings are now only visible as small slightly raised areas of brighter greener grass some with odd stones evident where cut by the plough and no definite details or sizes are discernible. Surveyed at 1:10,000. (2)
