Battle Of Piperdean 1435/6 (Battle Of Piper Dene) (Carham)
[NT 840359] The accounts of the Battle of Piperdean vary in details, but it is generally agreed that a skirmish between the English and Scots, in which the English were defeated, took place at Piperdean, near Pressen Farm. The date given variously as 30th September 1435, and 10th September 1536. (1)

The battle was fought between Henry percy, Earl of Northumberland, and William Douglas, Earl of Angus, each with a force of some 4000 men. The Scots won a decisive victory.
The battle was only siginificant from the usual skirmishes by the size of the forces involved, the remoteness of the location and old feud between the commanders. (3a)
