Carham Hall (Carham)

[NT 80363878] Carham Hall on site of [T.I.] Tower [N.R.] (1)

The tower was built in the 13th century and probably rebuilt several times later. No trace of it remains, and the present Carham Hall is on its site. (2)

Referred to, in 1541, as a 'little tower without barmkin or gate'. (3)

No apparent remains. (4)

In the early 1500s, the Prior of Kirkham Priory provided the villagers of Carham with a `little tower of defence against the Scots, of no real strength, without barmekyn or iron gate, intended for emergency refuge'. It lasted less than 50 years. The tower and its site are lost without trace. (5a)

Listed in King. (5b)
