The building is oriented north-south and measures 10m x 4m with the remains of walls of undressed stone maximum height 0.3m. The entrance is at the north end of the west side. There are traces of a small outbuilding to the south. No evidence for dating. (2)
Sketch plan as guide for field survey. (3)
Probably comparatively modern. In poor condition. (4)
No change to the report of 11/10/55. (5)
A stone built rectangular shieling lies adjacent to the modern track leading towards Red Cribs at the head of the College Valley, upon an ancient river terrace. The building is 12.5m long by 6.25m wide its long axis aligned approximately north east by south west. It is divided into two rooms, the larger (northern) measures 6.2m by 2.5m internally and the smaller (southern) measures 2.7m by 2.7m. Within the larger room some tumble at the north east end may represent a partition. There is an entrance, c.1m wide, to the smaller room in its south east side. The walls of the building are now represented by rubble walls spread to 2.75m wide and nowhere higher than 0.4m, althought the building itself is in a moderately good state of preservation. (6)
Shieling 930m SSW of Mounthooly. Scheduled on 22nd May 1996, national monument number 24639. (7)
The shieling is visible on aerial photographs. (8)
Foundations of a rectangular building on a small knoll at the edge of a river terrace: no facing stones are visible in the walls which are approx 0.8m-1.0m wide. The overall dimensions of the building are 7.4m N-S by 4.2m E-W. There is a possible entrance in the N end of the W wall approximately 1.3m wide and a patch of large stones and rubble in the NE corner. There is no indication of an internal partition. The building was possibly a shieling. The traces of an outbuilding mentioned by EG (2) are represented by only a few stones to the S. (9a)
