Lime kiln at Saughy Rigg (Melkridge)
The remains of an 18th or 19th century lime kiln can be seen built into the hillside at Saughy Rigg. (1)
A post medieval limekiln and quarry are recorded as earthworks on aerial photographs at Fond Tom's Pool. The lime kiln is located at NY 7426 6879, and has a large quarry at NY 7428 6883. The limekiln is recorded on the 1st. Edition 6" map of 1866, and shown on the current map (1978) as 'disused' (2a-b)
