Sites of four Bronze Age round barrows (Haltwhistle)

Near the 35th milestone on the Military Road, ('MS Newcastle 35' is described on OS 25" 1861 at NY 70656581, situated on the present B6318 road), a short distance from Wall Mill (NY 707662) are four tumuli, one of which was trenched in 1757 revealing human bones, and an urn containing ash and salt. (1)

No visible remains, the site, in the area of MS 35, is occupied by modern farm buildings, and featureless pasture fields. (2)

The tumuli described by Auth 1 could refer to the group at Four Laws (NY 76 NW 35) or the 'two or three' at Markham Cottage (NY 76 NW 47). (3)

No visible remains, site occupied by farm buildings and improved pasture. (4a)
