Turret 40b, on the summit of the ridge beyond Lodham Slack, was examined in 1946. It was badly preserved only the east door jamb remaining. (2)

The turret was located in 1912 (5b). There are no visible remains. (5a)
The excavation in 1946 (see authority 2) found the turret to be 19 feet wide internally, its unusual size was thought to be because of the wide prospects the turret commands. (5c)
