Kielder Viaduct (Kielder)
Kielder Viaduct. Scheduled Northum 472. Stone railway viaduct built in 1862 in baronial style with castellated parapet and false arrowslits in the voussoirs. The arches are built on the skew. Designer was Peter Nicholson. (1)
The bridge was designed and built in 1861 and the railway closed to passengers in 1856 and to goods in 1958. (2)
This railway viaduct was constructed for the Border Counties Railway. It is constructed in sandstone in a 'baronial' style with castle-like battlements and false arrow slits. The viaduct has a span of 392ft and rises 55ft above the River North Tyne. This is a rare example of a skew viaduct. (3)
NY 6321 9241. Kielder Viaduct. Construced in 1862 by P Nicholson and now preserved by the Northumberland and Newcastle Society. Finest surviving example of the skew arch form of construction. (4a)
