Colour Cleugh deserted medieval village (Kielder)
Colour Cleugh lies above the White Kielder Burn. Earthworks seen on aerial photographs mark the foundations of houses surrounded by steadings, garths and folds. Archaeologists think the settlement may be the same as one called `Kielderheys' in a document written in 1326. Alternatively, the settlement may have been occupied on a regular temporary basis, by Scottish herders pasturing their stock in England in the 16th century.
