Medieval hospital at The Spital (Haltwhistle)

The Spital, a farm opposite the entrance to Blenkinsop Hall [NY 66 SE 4] had probably, in old times, at the site of its farm house, an endowed hospital or inn upon it. In 1274 Nicholas de Tindale was charged with having alienated land at Ratun-Raw, in the Barony of Tindale, to Geoffry de Hosphale. (2)
Spital - Founded 1274. Date of Dissolution not known. Type T (Travellers and Poor Pilgrims). (3)
Lesser Hospital/Hopice (with net income under £50) Dissolved or moved elsewhere before AD 1500. (4)
NY 68736370 Spital is a farmhouse with out-buildings, of a late period of construction, neither the tenant, nor the owner's wife Mrs Joicey, could offer any information about the history of the site.
No remains which could be associated with an earlier building on the site, could be found in or around the farmstead. (5)
