Associated with some settlements near the Kellah Burn is a wide area of prehistoric cord rig cultivation. It was discovered by aerial photography in 1992 and extends into Cumbria. A small area was excavated in 1997 and 1998 and found evidence of plough, or ard, marks and cultivation furrows dug by spade. This area of cord rig is probably one of the largest expanses known in Northumberland.
