Remains of a shieling near Mardy's Cleugh (Knaresdale with Kirkhaugh)
NY 64095293 Remains of a shieling, 28ft by 12-1/2ft. Only the north and west walls, 5ft high and 1-1/2ft thick with quoin stones at the corner, survive in a modern shooting box. (1)
Situated at NY 64091 52917 on a platform levelled into the north facing slope above Mardy's Cleugh, the remains are basically as described by Authority 1, although they are not incorporated into a modern shooting box but lie adjacent to the north-west corner of a modern prefabricated hut. Surveyed at 1:10,000. (2)
