Stone cist from North Sunderland (North Sunderland and Seahouses)
A stone cist containing a burial and three urns was found in the yard of the Blue Bell Inn, North Sunderland on 30.5.1862, 1ft below the surface. Some years before 3' of sand had been removed making it probable that the cist had originally been in a barrow. Two of the vessels of the drinking cup (beaker) variety are in Rev W Greenwell's collection, the other of similar type was broken. (1)(2)
The Blue Bell Inn is now a private residence known as Croft House and the yard is at
NU 21113146. The present occupiers know nothing about the discovery. (3)
