Newtonbarns Limekiln (Newton-by-the-Sea)
These are the ruined remains of a lime kiln. All that can be seen is a mound with thistles growing on top of it. Limestone was burnt in lime kilns such as this to make lime, which was used to make cement or improve soil quality.
