There was a manorial court called the 'Kings Court' at Embleton. It met in a building called the Moot Hall which is mentioned in several old documents. The court-room seems to have been on the first floor of the building, the ground floor being used as a stable. Repairs to the hall and stable are mentioned in 1532 and in 1543 it was proposed to repair the 'Motehall' with materials from the decaying Dunstanburgh Castle. Rebuilding in 1586 by Ralph Grey cost £124 13s 0d. The court itself exists to the present day although the later rolls are purely of a formal character. (1)

Enquiries made in the village of Embleton failed to reveal the site of this Moot Hall. There are no old buildings which could be connected with the antiquity. (2)

The Old Hall at NU 23022261 contains 16th century internal features, and was probably originally the Moot Hall. It was modernised by the present owner circa 1956. (3)

The Moot Hall (formerly listed as The Old Hall). Grade II listed building. House and outbuildings. House 17th century or earlier, remodelled in later 18th century and extended in early 19th century. Outbuildings probably early 19th century. (4)
