(Area NU 220214) Towards the eastern end of a long ridge of land called Cold Embleton is a spot particularly rich in dark coloured mould in which, about 1851, have been ploughed up horns and bones of animals (horse, dog, sheep and deer) and a human skull. About 50x to the west of the spot is a knoll on which it is probable that a camp has been formed. (Nothing visible on available aerial photographs (RAF 1946)).
About 650x to the west, in 1862, a cist was ploughed up measuring 3ft 2ins x 2ft 2ins consisting of four side stones and a cover stone - pieces of a skull and other bones were found. (1)

The area in which these finds have been made stretches some 700m along a ridge of land embodying the fields Cold Embleton and Prickly Rigg. There are no traces of any tumuli or cists to be seen in these fields, nor are there any traces of the supposed camp. A quernstone 0.5m diameter was ploughed up between 1939-1945 by the farmer in the same area. The period to which it belongs cannot be determined. (2)
