Neolithic stone axe head found near Longhoughton (Longhoughton)

(NU 23671472). A large unpolished axe of grey-green granite 9-1/2ins long by 3-1/4ins wide at the cutting edge; the section is a heavy oval, flatter on one side than the other. Found on January 3rd 1934 in a field (OS No 126) 2ft6ins deep in black peat soil near Longhoughton. The axe will soon be placed in the Alnwick Castle Museum. (1)
