Bronze Age barrow burial (Longhoughton)
(NU 21511566). Tumulus and cist AD 1832 (entry on plan). Among other prehistoric remains at Long Houghton was a cist containing a contracted inhumation accompanied by an urn. (No definite connection between text and plan, but as they each mention only one cist it is assumed that they are associated). (1)
NU 21471565. A low much spread round barrow roughly circular with an average diameter of 20m and a maximum height of 0.5m. No trace of ditch or of the cist. The barrow, which is bramble-covered, is situated in a large pasture field. The small scale of Bateson's plan probably accounts for the difference in siting. (2)
In poor condition; average height 0.3m. Surveyed at 1/2500. (3)
