Saltworks (Amble)

Written records, dating to 1611, note that coalmining and saltmaking were common here. Much of the salt was used to salt fish. A salt works and a fish curing site were recorded as still being in existence in 1887, but salt had stopped being made here by 1927. Nothing survives of these industries.
