Mesolithic flint working site, Spindlestone Heugh (Easington (Northumberland))

On the side of Spindleston Crags (Spindleston Heughs (or crags) name centred NU 15153387) facing the south corner of Budle Bay a small workshop site, of early Tardenois industry was excavated in 1924. About 362 pieces of flint found c.3 feet below ground level from an area of c.40 square yards. Tools included scrapers, triangles, pointed blades etc. (1)

A representative collection of this material is in the Black Gate Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. (2)

Perambulation revealed no surface finds or indication of workshop sites. (3)

At NU 150336 15 microliths and 21 scrapers from Easington/Spindlestone (Buckley). Finds in Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle. (4)
