Ward Law prehistoric settlements (Alwinton)
This small Iron Age village on a ridge above Wardlaw Burn was later the site of another Romano-British village. A roughly oval earth bank surrounded the earlier site. Inside it were the possible remains of a number of houses. Overlying this enclosure was a rectangular bank containing the traces of more houses. This is believed to be a Roman period settlement. Nearby is a small patch of cord rig, the traces of prehistoric ploughing. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
