Mesolithic Flints (Bamburgh)
Mesolithic material from Bamburgh. Now in Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle upon Tyne, accession no 1935.16-18. (1)
11 microliths, 5 scrapers and 1 burin. Found at Bamburgh. (2)
NU 165355, Budle Heugh. Flints including 2x flakes from stone axes, one green and the other burnt; and Flakes x10, 7 of grey Bridlington flint, 1x honey colour, 1x black and 1x yellow speckled flint ; Broken blades x2, 1x grey Bridlington flint and 1x black ; Class E blade of glossy, green-grey cherty material. Very odd - slightly Chalcedonic. Collected 8.3.59. From various small crags behind Bamburgh castle. Museum of Antiquities Newcastle, Accession no. 1964.6.1-6 (4) box 104a. Ex W.Dodds. NU 165355, Budle Heugh. Flints including blade of Bridlington flint. Could be Mesolithic - looks older; and very definitely Neolithic material. All razor sharp black chalk derived flint.
