St John the Baptist's Leper Hospital (Adderstone with Lucker)
There was a leper hospital at Warenford that was founded before 1253. It was deserted and became a hermitage before 1399. Dedicated to St John the Baptist(?). (1)
No trace of the hospital or chapel remains. On a map of 1620 a field over four acres in extent is marked at the southern end of the hamlet, on the east of the road called Friar's Close. A little to the north of the village is a well called Priest's Well. (2)
The site of this hospital and chapel cannot be discovered and, although Tithe Maps and early maps have been consulted, the field called 'Friar's Close' has not been identified. Priest's Well is a small stagnant pool at NU 13632880. (3)
