Bronze Age Grave (Alnwick)
A stone-lined grave was found in 1861 when a new road was being dug. The only object found in it was a Bronze Age pot. There was no sign of any bones. In acid soil, such as are found here, bones often do not survive. The pot is now in Alnwick Castle museum. Another, similar, grave was found about 50m away in 1820. These graves are typical of the Bronze Age. They may originally have had a barrow, a mound of earth or stones, built over them.
