Lemmington Branch Roman homestead (Edlingham)

(NU 13271164) (b) A camp to the north of the farm called Lemmington Branch. (1)

The situation of this earthwork is not defensive, being on a northern slope and overlooked from the south. It consists of a 'scooped' enclosure with single rampart and without a ditch. The bank, in which stones are visible, has an average width of 4m and a maximum height of 1m.
There is a simple entrance on the northern (lower) side. The break in the rampart to the south east is probably modern.
In the south west corner of the enclosure is a circular platform 8m in diameter and 0.4m high, with stones visible in the perimeter. Badly overgrown, it probably represents the remains of a hut circle.
The springs to the north form a nearby water supply. There are no traces of outer defences and it is concluded that the enclosure was for pastoral purposes, and probably native in origin. The earthwork is overgrown with bracken. (2)

A small homestead of the local Romano-British type Surveyed at 1:2500. (3)
